One of the strengths of a community foundation is the ability to steward charitable gifts not only for today’s needs, but for the future. When donors establish endowed or long-term funds, those gifts can be invested over time, allowing them to continue supporting local nonprofits year after year, in keeping with each donor’s charitable intent.
That stewardship requires care, discipline, and expertise. The Community Foundation of Nevada County is fortunate to be guided by a volunteer Investment Committee made up of local financial professionals and community leaders who bring deep experience in investment management, finance, governance, and philanthropy.
So what does the Investment Committee do?
In simple terms, the committee helps oversee how the Foundation’s charitable assets are invested and managed. Its members recommend and review investment policies, monitor portfolio performance, evaluate investment managers, and help ensure that the Foundation’s funds are managed prudently, transparently, and with a long-term view.
Their work helps balance two important goals: making resources available to support community needs today, while preserving and growing charitable assets for future generations.
Because these committee members volunteer their time and expertise, more resources can remain focused where they belong: supporting donors, nonprofit partners, and the long-term wellbeing of Nevada County.
The result is powerful. Gifts made today can continue generating grants decades from now — helping meet community needs not just once, but again and again.
We’re proud to welcome three outstanding new members to the committee this year: Ty Zwick, Dylan Hendricks, and Liam Apple.
