Nevada County Relief Fund to Provide up to $20,000 for Displaced Survivors of Everhart Hotel Fire
On September 5, the Community Advisory Council of the The Nevada County Relief Fund (NCRF) voted to support the vulnerable survivors of the Everhart Hotel fire with up to $20,000 in assistance for temporary housing. The fire at the Everhart Hotel in downtown Grass Valley on Tuesday, August 28th displaced 13 vulnerable Grass Valley residents, most of whom do not have the means to find alternate affordable housing on their own, and were at imminent risk of homelessness. In most other communities many of these residents would already be homeless, but in this community we step up. A big shout out to nonprofits FREED and Hospitality House, as well as the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation and County Health and Human Services
About NCRF
NCRF was established in April 2020 to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. In response, the Relief Fund raised nearly $1.3 Million to help dozens of small businesses and nonprofits countywide, with nearly half the money raised from individual donations.
When the Jones Fire hit in August 2020, followed by the River Fire in August 2021, we launched the “Wildfire Recovery and Relief Fund” to get over $400,000 in cash donations quickly to our neighbors impacted by those wildfires.
Today, we have a single emergency relief fund which is managed by the Community Foundation of Nevada County (COFONC), and will be ready to raise needed funds to help our friends and neighbors in the event of disaster.
CNL to Come Under COFONC Umbrella
Managing Director Wendy Willoughby to stay on and lead expanding program.
For over 20 years, Center for Nonprofit Leadership of the Sierra (CNL) has been a resource center for organizations and individuals in Nevada County and the Sierra Nevada region of California. Founded as a catalyst to strengthen and sustain local nonprofit organizations, CNL focuses on “best practice” workshops, executive leadership seminars, on-site coaching and mentoring, and public advocacy.
CNL leadership has long envisioned a community foundation in western Nevada County. When COFONC was CNL will remain under the leadership of Managing Director Wendy Willoughby, and will be supported by a robust Curriculum Committee, and of course, COFONC’s Board of Directors. We’re looking forward to continuing with the great programming CNL is known for, and working with Wendy to understand the needs and aspirations of our nonprofit community!
