It’s Happening: Sustainably Raised Beef, Local Veggies, and a Bigger Vision for School Lunch
Community Roots has started transforming breakfast and lunch for 29 school sites in Western Nevada County. The goal? Healthier, scratch-cooked meals made with locally sourced ingredients — like regenerative beef from California farms and fresh produce from local farms. It’s a big shift — and it’s just getting started. With support for staff training and a centralized culinary center on the horizon, Community Roots is laying the groundwork for a sustainable, scratch-cooked school meal program.
