During and after a local disaster, there is a need for coordination and communication among community-based organizations (CBO) and local government. A COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is a consortium of non‐profit, community-based, and faith‐based organizations whose goal is to facilitate service to those imperiled, impaired, or impacted by local disaster. A COAD works to improve resource sharing and communication, and to eliminate duplication of efforts in all phases of disaster preparedness and emergency management.
Many communities (including Eastern Nevada County) have COADS or VOADs (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) in place to serve this function. The Community Foundation of Nevada County proposes launching a COAD in Western Nevada County. This meeting will serve as the initial convening of potential participants.
