Nonprofits are democracy’s safety net—and advocacy is how we solve our communities’ most challenging problems, not just admire them. In today’s climate of gridlock in Washington and escalating battles at the state and local level, nonprofit leaders must find the courage to step into the crossfire and speak up for their communities.
This interactive workshop equips nonprofit staff and board members with the tools, confidence, and strategies to turn mission into policy impact. Participants will learn:
- What advocacy really is (and isn’t). Demystifying the myths and showing why advocacy is legal, vital, and effective.
- Advocacy vs. lobbying vs. politics. Untangling the differences—and why nonprofits should care about all three.
- Advocacy fuels giving. How advocacy engagement inspires donors, volunteers, and long-term sustainability.
- Harnessing grassroots power. Unlocking the influence of staff, boards, donors, and communities.
- Building trusted relationships. Practical ways to connect with lawmakers and amplify your impact.
By the end of this session, participants will leave with the clarity and confidence to take meaningful advocacy actions that strengthen their mission, mobilize their supporters, and shape real change during these challenging times.
